Rice is a staple food crop grown and imported to The Liberia, the base for most dishes. Grown in the rainy season, it looks like grain before processing, which involves pounding in a mortar with a pestle. There are several varieties available at the market, usually charged per standard cup.
The agricultural sector is the most important sector of the Liberian economy contributing 32% of the gross domestic product, providing employment and income for 80% of the population, and accounting for 70% of the country's foreign exchange earnings. It remains the prime sector to raise income levels, for investments, to improve food security and reduce levels of poverty.
